Wittem is located between Maastricht and Vaals and together with Gulpen it forms the municipality of Gulpen - Wittem. The village owes its name mainly to the Redemptorist monastery. It has a beautiful monastery library for exhibitions and performances, where believers venerate Saint Gerard. It is a real pilgrimage.
But if you walk out of the village, into the rolling fields; then you will immediately understand why Wittem has always been called a “glory”.
The hill country is one of the most beautiful places in South Limburg, with a rich history and many original half-timbered houses. The village is close to the Belgian border and has a uniquely beautiful nature with unlimited walking and cycling opportunities.
Or visit one of the many other attractions in Limburg, such as the Drielandenpunt, the cozy terraces on the Vrijthof in Maastricht, Thermae 2000, the coal mine or take a boat trip on the Maas.
